Sweet Girl

Makenzie is turning into quite the sweet little girl. She is beginning to show empathy for others and remorse when she misbehaves. She will now spontaneously apologize for misbehavior or "accidents" (stepping on your toe, spilling a drink etc) and she has become more generous with her kisses and hugs.

Tonight I was laying on her beanbag with her in her playroom during her "wind down" time right before bed. We were watching "Yo Gabba Gabba" (by the way, that is the weirdest show, but she likes it) and she looked up at a poster on her wall that I had brought home to her last year some time. She began to talk about the day I brought the poster home and how she remembered seeing it in the car when I picked her up from school (I can't believe she remembers that stuff!) and she said "that made my heart super happy Momma!"

Isn't that the sweetest thing you've ever heard?!

Play by Play

We're an hour and a half into the homestudy. Tim is getting his individual interview right now downstairs--no telling what he's got to say about me! But hey, I get my chance up next!

Well it wasn't as bad as I set myself up for. We wrapped it up shortly after 3pm, so a total of about 4 hours.

Now we wait!

Afraid to Put it in Print...

....for fear it might jinx us (again).

I got a confirmation call at lunch today that our homestudy is still on for tomorrow with the supervisor at the agency. I gave him directions and so far it looks like it's a go! Ack--I'm scared just thinking about it!

How to Make a Princess

Step 1: Pick a princess outfit.

Step 2: Pick a hat.

Step 3: Hair and makeup of course!

Voila! A princess at last.

Runway time.

Her Vogue look.

First Legible Artwork

So this is the first legible piece of artwork Makenzie has brought home. She says it's a puppy dog. Tim doubted her artistic prowess, but when I asked her to recreate it, she made another decent replication. She's getting so big!

Babbling

So this seems to be one of the longest days I’ve had at work in recent memory. It seems everyone else on the planet (AKA: Texas A&M University) has taken the day off except for the people occupying my office. What that means for me is that I have a LONG, BORING day staring at the clock and jumping on each email that trickles in like it’s a piece of raw meat and I’m a ravenous animal. See—I told you it has been a long day.

I did get a phone call today at lunch from a supervisor at the home office of the adoption agency we’re working with. He apologized profusely for the way our case has been (mis)handled and said he would be doing our homestudy himself.

I couldn’t help but wonder if he meant what he was saying or if it was code for “Well, you’ve now been deemed the difficult, hard to please, forever pestering us clients so I, as a supervisor, will be performing your homestudy to ensure that nothing slips by and your home gets the white glove treatment for sure.”

But alas, at least it’s scheduled for July 21 and he promises that it will not be cancelled under any circumstances this time. Now I am really nervous. I feel more nervous than I was the other 3 times it had been scheduled—maybe because he’s a supervisor or because I know it’s pretty much set in stone this time? {Insert me, knocking on wood here. Please God, do not take that as a challenge. I am not trying to solicit a test from you where you show me whose schedule we’re actually on.}

Anywho…just some nonsensical babbling for this lovely July 2nd afternoon as I wile away the hours before 5pm.

Happy 4th everyone!
